LIGHT HORSE SHOW INFORMATION

Entries can be made online at https://www.assistexpo.ca/metcalfefair. Post entries will be accepted at Fair office after online cut-off date.

  • Entries can be made online at https://www.assistexpo.ca/metcalfefair, or by delivering to the Fair Office at 2821 8th Line Road, Metcalfe, ON K0A 2P0. All entries must be received by the Secretary on or before Tuesday, September 24th, 2024. Gate admission wristbands will be mailed for all entries received by September 24th. If entries received after that date, gate admission applies.
  • A 15% administrative fee will be deducted from any prize money amounting to $15.00 or more. Late/Post entries will be charged $3.00 per entry.
  • For acceptance to show, all entry forms must be filled out completely and signed by the exhibitor.
  • No telephone entries will be accepted.

Rules and Regulations

  • Each exhibitor is subject to and should be familiar with the Exhibitor Rules and Regulations of the Metcalfe Agricultural Society.
  • Exhibitors showing livestock at the Metcalfe Agricultural Society Fall Fair must show proof of liability insurance of minimum $2,000,000.00 on entry form, including the name of owner or company, amount of insurance and expiry date.
  • Judging to commence at 10:30 a.m. sharp on Saturday. Classes to be judged in order in which they appear in the prize list. Please notify the announcer should a hold on the gate be required.
  • Joint ownership permitted in all Light Horse Classes.
  • Stake Classes - to be eligible for entry in a Stake Class at this show, the animals must have been entered, shown and judged in at least one other class in the respective Division. Certain Stake Classes have specific requirements as to what classes qualify the animal for the Stake. See class descriptions for specifics.
  • Stallions are not eligible in any children’s class.
  • Membership fee of $10.00, unless retained from last year's prize money, must accompany entry forms.
  • All exhibitors and attendants must be neatly and appropriately attired upon entering the ring.
  • Horses/ponies shown in their respective division are not eligible for any other division unless otherwise stated.
  • No exhibitor will be allowed more than two (2) entries per class.
  • ** FOR SAFETY REASONS - WARM-UP RING to be used by only ONE CLASS AT A TIME – especially give room for road horses.
  • Ribbons will be given out for 1st to 3rd placing

Special Notice - Any person who shall attempt to interfere with the judges while in the discharge of their duties, who shall at any time, on the premises of the Society use any contemptuous or abusive language to any judge in consequence of any award made by him, shall forfeit his right to any premium to which they might otherwise be entitled, and may be excluded from exhibiting for one year thereafter. Judges are requested to immediately report any breach of this rule.

CLASS A - ROADSTER DIVISION

Eastern Ontario Open Road Horse to Bike Championship. Entries must have shown in Class 16.. Prizes: 1st: $160, 2nd: $120, 3rd: $100, 4th: $70, 5th: $50, others: $15

CLASS B - SPECIALS
Open to all breeds and types of light horses. (No ponies permitted, except Classes 40, 52 & 61)
Cross entries are permitted unless otherwise indicated

B13.

Open English Pleasure or Hunter Pleasure Horse. At a walk, normal trot, strong trot, and canter. To be judged on manners, performance, quality and conformation.

B23.

Open Western Pleasure Horse. To be shown on a light rein at a walk, jog-trot, and lope. To be judged on manners, performance, substance and conformation.

B40.

Lead Line Class (Children Aged 3-9) Open to children 3-9 years of age. Child may ride animal under appropriate tack or drive animal in a suitable vehicle. Handler and exhibitor must be properly attired. Exhibitor must be able to sit in the saddle/vehicle and hold the reins without handler's help. Animal will only be asked to walk. Any animal not under complete control will be excused immediately from the ring. Children who show in this class are not eligible to compete in any other class. Horse or pony may cross-enter from any Division. Each exhibitor to receive $5.00 and ribbon. Prize: $0

B52.

Open Costume Class. (not a lead class). Horses or ponies. To be shown at the walk only. Judged on creativity and originality. No native costumes allowed.. Prizes: 1st: $45, 2nd: $35, 3rd: $30, 4th: $20, 5th: $17, others: $10

B53.

Open Parade Horse. To be shown under Western or Mexican attire to be judged at parade gaits.

B59.

Open Equitation. Open to all horses under Hunter, English or Western tack/attire. To be judged on rider's seat, manners of mount and neatness of turnout. Riders to be judged at walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Simple pattern may be required.

B61.

Open Pleasure Driving Horse or Pony. To be shown to a 2 wheel cart at a walk, trot, and extended trot. Judged on manners, quality and performance.

CLASS C - HACKNEY PONY DIVISION

Single Hitch Ladies' Cart. Driven to a 2-wheeled cart. Judged on performance, quality and manners. Entrants must be 18 years or over.

Child's Driving. Shown by a youth 11 years of age & under to a 2-wheeled vehicle at a walk and trot. Judged on performance, quality and manners. Medal will be awarded to 1st place entry. Prizes: 1st: $20, 2nd: $20, 3rd: $20, 4th: $20, 5th: $20, others: $15

Miniature Horse Team. Shown to a suitable vehicle

Youth Driving. Driven to a 2-wheeled cart. Shown by a youth 12 to 17 years of age to a 2-wheeled vehicle at a walk, collected trot and a working trot. Judged on performance, quality and manners. CLASS L - CANADIAN HACKNEY SOCIETY JUNIOR EXHIBITOR DIVISION

The following two classes are open to Juniors under the age of 18 as of January 1st, 2023. Exhibitors or members of their immediate family must be a member of the Canadian Hackney Society. Cross entries are permitted.

L11.

Canadian Hackney Society Junior Exhibitor Showmanship. To be judged on the junior exhibitor's ability to show a registered hackney horse or pony, mare or gelding on the line.

L30.

Canadian Hackney Junior Exhibitor Driving Competition. To be shown to a 4-wheeled vehicle and judged on manners, quality and performance, and suitability of animal 50%, driver's ability 50%.
