We invite you to participate in our 2024 Metcalfe Fair SCARECROW Contest.
Let your imagination run wild.

General Rules & Regulations

  • A $10.00 membership fee must accompany entries unless retained from last year's prize money.
  • Entries may be made online at https://www.assistexpo.ca/metcalfefair. Or an entry form may be submittted to the Metcalfe Fair Office.
  • Entires are due by Saturday, September 28, 2024.
  • An administration fee of 10% will be deducted from prize money earned.
  • Metcalfe Agricultural Society is not responsible for lost or damaged exhibits.
  • Items cannot be removed until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th. No exceptions.
  • Metcalfe Agricultural Society is not responsible for articles left in the exhibit halls after 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th, 2024.

SCARECROW COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS

ONE entry per individual, family, group, or organization. Open to all ages.

Entries must be hand-made. NO commercial costumes, rubber, or plastic masks, etc. will be allowed. The scarecrow must be moveable (25 lbs or less), be no more than a 4 feet x 4 feet base and minimum 4 feet tall and no more than 6 feet tall. It must be self-supporting, weatherproof in wind or rain. No perishable goods, glass or applicances may be used in construction or display. All decorations and props must be firmly attached.

The Scarecrow Contest is family friendly. Scarecrows should be whimsical, humourous, mischievous, or loveable - NOT frightening. Monsters, gruesome, bloody, or especially scary entries will be disqualified. The Metcalfe Agricultural Society reserves the right to disqualify entries they feel to be distasteful or not family friendly.

Judging will consider the most original, most likely to scare a crow, and best use of materials.

Scarecrows must be assembled prior to arrival at the Metcalfe Fair grounds on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to direct you to your scarecrow's location.

When you bring your entry for setup on October 2nd, 2024, you will be asked to sign a release form stating that if you do not pick your scarecrow up by 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, you will forfeit the right to have your scarecrow returned and it will become the property of Metcalfe Agricultural Society. We will have the right to dispose of leftover scarecrows at our discretion.
